Tips for Dealing With a Bedbug Infestation

Blog

A bed bug infestation can make your skin crawl. The thought that there are little bugs living in your mattress is enough to unnerve anyone but when they start to bite that's when you know that things are getting out of hand. Here are some tips for getting rid of bedbugs fast.

Hot Water Is Your Friend

One of the best ways to get rid of bed bugs is with hot water. You will need to clean your bed linen thoroughly in the hottest water it can take without scorching the fabric. After that, you need to turn the dryer on its highest setting and run it through a cycle to kill the bugs. Of course, you can also do all of this manually by heating water on the stove and placing the bed linen in a large bucket or washtub. Pour the hot water on the items making sure they are completely saturated. Get rid of the water after a few minutes and hang the items outside on a line.

Vacuum and Scrub

You will need to use a stiff brush to remove bedbugs and any eggs from your mattress before you start vacuuming. Once brushing is finished, go ahead and vacuum your bed as well as the surrounding areas as thoroughly as you can. After you have finished vacuuming do not hesitate to remove the cleaning bag. Place it into a plastic bag and dispose of it in the garbage outside.

Cover Up

Did you know that bedbugs can live at least a year without eating? This is why you should get coverings for your mattress and box spring. Make sure the coverings can be tightly zipped. Remember to keep everything locked up for a year, in this way no new bedbugs can get in and the old ones will not be able to get out. You may also want to declutter the areas around your bed if possible. The fewer places the bedbugs have to hide the better it will be for you. Try to repair any cracks that are in your bedroom wall. You may also want to glue down any wallpaper that is peeling because bedbugs love to hide in these places.

Bedbugs can be a real nuisance but if you know exactly how to get rid of them then you be well on your way to saving your mattress from infestation. You will also save yourself from bites. Use the tips given here and you will be bedbug-free.
