2 Ways To Keep Pests Out Of Your Home This Spring

Blog

Now that spring has arrived, so do many pests, such as ants, termites, cockroaches, and more. The best way to keep them out of your home is to start removing them from the outside before they have a chance to get in. Below are three tips on how you can do this so you can have a home free of pests this spring.

Get a Lawn Treatment

Treating your lawn is one of the best ways to keep pests out of your home. You can hire a pest control company to do a lawn treatment for you. They have a spray that they will spray over your entire lawn. The company will be careful that they use a spray that will not kill grass or other vegetation and flowers. Look for lawn treatment services near you.

You can also purchase lawn treatment at a home improvement store. If you want to be sure that you are not using something that is toxic, choose a product that is listed as organic. If you do not have a large yard, this would be a good option for you. The product that you purchase will come with complete instructions on how to properly mix the solution and place it on your yard.

Use Natural Products

There are many things you can do naturally to help keep pests out of your home. One of these options that works well is by purchasing diatomaceous earth (DE). This is a powder that is sold in bags. You can purchase this at some farm supply stores, home improvement stores, or online. Make sure what you purchase is labeled as "food grade" as this type is not poisonous or toxic in any way.  This product works by dehydrating insects so the only thing left is their exoskeleton. To use, sprinkle the DE over your yard, around flowers, and any other area where insects could be. You can also use this product inside your home. For example, if you have fleas in the carpet sprinkle the DE on the carpet and let it sit for about 30 minutes and then vacuum.

Another way to remove insects naturally is by using a mixture of liquid dish soap and water. Fill up a sprayer with water and add a couple of teaspoons of the soap and mix. Spray the mixture over your lawn and other areas where you see insects. This product may not be the best as you will have to reapply it several times throughout the year, but it does kill insects.

Talk with a pest control company about killing pests outside, and the professionals can give you more tips.
