Mice Running Amok? What You Should Do

Blog

Mice seem to serve a purpose in cartoons, but unless the mice in your home are making you clothing, you need to get rid of them. Mice can bring other pests with them, and they can also bring disease. If you have mice in your home, you need to get rid of them and prevent them from ever returning. If you see one mouse in your house, you may have even more than that. You may have an entire colony of mice living in your home. Read on for what you can do if you have mice in your house.

Set Mouse Traps

Find traps that work with mice and set them around your home where you have seen mouse droppings. If you aren't sure what a mouse dropping looks like, it's small, black and has an elongated shape, much like a sprinkle — although these are not edible. Mouse droppings can carry bacteria and disease, so be sure you clean up these droppings with a bleach/water solution. Set traps around where you have seen grease or oil smears, which can be from mice movement. Set the traps along walls, which is usually where mice roam. If you have to, set a lot of these traps and be sure to check them daily. Remove whatever you catch inside and reset the traps.

Wipe Down Every Surface

Not only are you going to need to clean up the mouse droppings and the grease smears caused by the mice themselves, but you also need to wipe down every surface of your home. Mice can carry bacteria on their feet as they run across the surfaces of your home, so be sure to clean your home thoroughly. You also need to clean up everything that is attracting the mice to your home. If you find crumbs, grease or oil splatters, or other food that mice could be eating, you need to clean this up.

Protect Your Home

You also need to protect your home to prevent other pests from getting inside. If mice are getting in, this means other pests can be making their way in as well. Mice can attract other pests like ants and roaches, which may eat their deceased bodies or their feces as well. Repair your home to prevent mice or other pests from getting inside. Do an inspection of your home and seal cracks in your foundation or holes in your siding where these pests can be coming inside. Also replace seals around doors and windows that may be broken or have dry rot.

If mice are running amok and you aren't in a fairytale, you need to get rid of these pests as soon as possible. Hire a pest control company that provides mice removal treatment to help you get rid of your mice problem.
