How To Safely Approach Racoon Removal

Blog

Racoons are very smart and are pretty good at getting into homes. If you have a raccoon inside your property, here are several removal tips to review before you get started.

Keep Racoons Confined to an Area

Racoons may not look very fast, but they have quite a bit of speed when they want to. That's why it's important to trap this pest in an area of your home if you can so that you have an easier time removing them completely from your property. Otherwise, they're going to scatter away to open spaces and become harder to catch.

You can lure them to confined spaces in a couple of ways, but probably the easiest and safest is using bait. Once you have them cornered, you'll have an easier time getting them to go into racoon removal cages.

Wear Gloves When Removing Babies

If you're dealing with baby racoons, they're very easy to remove because they're not going to put up a fight like the adult racoons will. Still, you want to be careful when picking them up and moving them to an area away from your property.

Gloves are going to really come in handy for this step because they'll keep your hands from getting scratched or bit just in case the babies put up some resistance. Just make sure your gloves are thick and cover as much of your hands and arms as possible so that you have plenty of protection to take advantage of.

Hire a Pest Control Expert for a Large Population

If you have a large population of racoons in or around your home, it's probably best to just hire a pest control expert for this situation. Trying to remove them one-by-one by yourself is going to be time-consuming and potentially dangerous.

A pest control expert can easily deal with this removal by setting out large steel cages that the racoons will eventually go inside because of how the traps are baited. Then this pest control expert can find a safe location for this racoon family.

If you have found racoons in your home or they're getting too close to your property on a consistent basis, you want to approach removal carefully. Take your time and assess the pest situation that you're dealing with, so that you can take the right removal measures that will be the most effective and keep you from getting injured.
